If I'm not mistaken, I believe the narrator's voicew to be that of veteran actor Hume Cronyn--husband of Jessica Tandy.

This MUST have run afoul of some anti-miscegenation law in effect at the time, somewhere in its country of origin...

Delightful Modern Fable, combining elements of
Alice in Wonderland, with The Gingerbread man:
making in all a Delicious Confection.

Henry, age 7: I liked the cartoon because she awoke from her dream and found the baby cakes in the pan with thier mom and dad. I also liked watching her make the cake. That was fun.

Being 47,I Grew Up watching All The Animated Cartoons On TV.From The really Great:Tex Avery;Bob Clampett;Friz Freleng; and The Master Hisself Chuck Jones.
To The Really Bad,Yet So Bad,Theyr'e Good:Clutch Cargo.
And The Inbetween:Mostly The Paramount Cartoons.
Granted,With The Exception of The Popeye Cartoons
of The Late 40's&50's;Theyr'e Not Looked On with As Much Respect As Tom&Jerry;The Pink Panther;
Looney Tunes;etal..
And while The Greats of The Era From The 40's to the Mid 60's Are In Box sets From Warner and MGM/Sony Video; The Paramount Cartoons Are Primarily In The cheap Rack At WalMart;Target
and CStores.
Which Is A Shame Really.Granted,"Herman&Katnip"are Just A Knockoff of "Tom&Jerry".Then Again,"Itchy&Scratchy"on The Simpsons Are Slightly More Malevolent Versioins
of The above Two.*
(*Imagine If Sam Peckinpah or Quentin Tarrantino
Had Directed "H&K"or"T&J".You Get The Idea.)
Yes,They Didn't Have The In Jokes and Mayhem As Looney Tunes or Rocky&Bullwinkle Did;But The Paramount Cartoons Kinda Had A Sweetness and Charm About Them.
It Is Kinda Bad That Paramount's Noveltoons Are Treated As Low Rent While The Offerings Of Warner Brothers;Universal and MGM/UA are Treated With
Admiration and Respect!!
Yes,Little audrey's A Guilty Pleasure,Then Again,So Are Peanuts and A Dr.Pepper Mixed Together!!

i think this is a fun cartoon.it may not be 'loony toons' good, but it's still fun if you take it for what it is, a 'easy going' and 'lighthearted' childrens cartoon.

Subject: Whoa...
This is a really interesting cartoon! I LOVE this type of story, which features inatimate objects (in this instance Baked goods, a double bonus!) coming to life and making all sorts of visual puns! TheyÃÂÃÂre getting ready for a wedding, with assistance from a hu-man girl by the name of Audrey, who is annoyingly cute as it gets. Mind you, I love the little bit at the beginning with the radio announcer teaching her to bake a cake and then saying
ÃÂÃÂBeat it!ÃÂÃÂ. The batter I mean!ÃÂÃÂ ha ha! Classic! Anyways, while this cake is baking, Audrey falls asleep and the Gingerbread man that is cooking in the oven suddenly comes to life and escapes, with Audrey closely behind! HeÃÂÃÂs off to get married! HeÃÂÃÂs marrying the Angel cake! WhoÃÂÃÂs white as can be! Wow, so is this the first inter-racial marriage ever on screen? The gingerbread guy IS as brown as he could be! Oh, this HAD to cause problems somewhere! Anyways, Cakeland is as happy as can be about this, and dance around, looking suspiciously like drive-in intermission characters! The marriage seems to be a success when.. ThatÃÂÃÂs right.. DevilÃÂÃÂs Food Cake arrives! Ha ha! This was great!

I thought thia was an adorable show. the characters were creative; the devil food cake- the villian, the gingerbread man running away, etc.
I thought that the settings were creative as well and I thought all around it was an adorable show with creativity and cute characters.

Subject: Harmless little 'toon, rather charming
This is a charming piece about a little girl named Audrey who is beginning to learn how to cook, no doubt so that she can grow up and be a useful wife to some man. It is indeed a man, over the radio, who is giving her cooking instructions, in this case a recipe for gingerbread.

Once the batter is made and the gingerbread is baking, Little Audrey falls asleep and dreams of her gingerbread man coming to life and running off to Cake Land. She goes looking for him and finds him happily engaged to marry one Angel Cake.

Audrey helps Angel get all dolled up for the wedding, then watches as she strolls down the aisle, meets her beau and then is abducted and carried away by the evil Devilfood. The Cop Cake Brigade storms out of the local gendarmerie in hot pursuit, but they're no match for Devilfood, who slyly takes the Strawberry Short Cut to The Old Milk Stream. Audrey saves the day when she uses her egg beater to quickly turn the milk into whipped cream so that Devilfood is stopped and can be caught. Angel Cake is rescued, Audrey wakes up from her dream and we find that she is indeed a wonderful cook who will one day grow up to be the woman of any man's gastronomical dreams.

The baking iconography which permeates the film is amusing, and the story is clever. The only drawback is the color, which has obviously faded. If the date of 1950 is correct, this was no doubt made in CineColor, which was the only alternative to Technicolor available at that time.
